Dear Cousin.
Geo W Jacobs;—
It is with much pleasure that I embrace the present oppertunity in writing a few lines to you this evening in answer to your kind and most welcome letter which came to hand in due season. Cousin you must not think that I have forgoten you. I have not much time to write letters and I know that you get to hear from me pretty often. Cousin you said something conserning my Photograph which I had sent to Cousin Mary. And thought / that I might send you one I did not know if you did want one. But I thought that I would send you one for I had a few then on hand. And if you do not want to keep it, it is optionate to me. You can remit by Mail if you wish to do so the picture is not very good. Cousin Mary's picture came to hand and was very acceptable. I had showed it to the Capt he did not know it at first & after I had told him he thought it did look a little like Cousin Mary so more of this. I had a letter from Rev'd Addams on last evening I think that he writes very good letters but so he should. he likes a little spirt in it place, like most all folks do. I again assume my writing after supper. & what do you think / you think I had for my supper I shall tell you. but you must not laugh at my foolishness I had Coffee of course & friend beef also made some flour gravy (or dip) as some call it. Sooft bread. We have bread issued to us yet but I think we will soon have to come down to the hard tack for no doubt we will be soon called to leave this place & go to meet the enemy. We are expecting that the time is near at hand, by all appearance for there has been all preperations made for a move. The supply trains are loaded & ready I think that we will move inside of one week at least the way things appear to me. And I am of the oppinion that we are agoing to whip the rebs this time /
We have not got the Drunkard Hoocker to lead us on this Spring but the Timerous & Gentlemanly Meade. Also Little U S Grant who the rebs say always had brute force where he gained victorys I think he has a pretty large force now in the Army of the Potomac. And Richmond will fall inside of six Month if it fall at all But I must close for this time hoping to hear from you soon I am enjoying good health & all the rest of the Co. the Capt pretty well. I hope you may all be enjoying good health
My love to all inquireing friends
from your affectionate Cousin

I wrote this in a hurry which
