Dear Parents John and L Brown
this morning I take my pen in hand to write a few lines to you. I am yet in good health and hopeing this to find you all in the Same. I have just got the work done up and house swept out and ready for Company. Steph is making out Descriptive Lists & Furloughs for the Vetrons. Jud is on Duty Bill is up to his tent. Phin Austin has had his Court-marshl his Sentence is that all pay up to the time he was arested by Cooper is to be taken away and he has to begin from that time to Serve / his 3 years. So you see he hasent Served Onley from 7 to 8 months and for that I believe he drawes full pay from that time. Guess I have made a mistake about the time he was Arested but at any rate it is from the time he was arested. He sais it is rather hard but better than to be shot. Well have you got my Ambrotype yet and Diary. dont forget to inform me in your next. Sent one to [?] the same time and havent heard from that one yet. Ambrotypes on single plate onley costs 10 Shil. Down here what do you think of that. Perhaps cost 30 Cts / at Home but 3 years or During we call it 8 month from the last of this month. And if we get out safe then that is soon as I want to get out. Henry More was here a day or 2 ago & sais he gave up Reenlisting and I told him I was glad of it. He said his Mother thought he had and should look for him home but tell her to wait a little while longer. As for the weather here it is rather windy and cold altho we have no snow to speak of. The isent a flake to be seen on the ground now nor / hasent bin for some time. We are Orderd to go to building Breast works here in front of the Regt so if we are Atacted in Front we will be ready I understand Em has bin Sig[?] the [?] how is that is Em going to Callifornia after Mules I will close by asking you to give my best respects to all inquiring
