Camp Near Willis-Madden Va.
April 16th—1864
 
                                                                                                Ever and rember Parents
this morning I find my-Self seated for the purpos of writing a few lines. I am in good health as when I left and hope to hold out so untill next December. I will now say we have bin on the road all of the time since I left home untill last Eve we reached the old camp every thing looks naturel and about as for the old sort. I stayed to Mrs. Manleys house what time I was in little Valley and should have boarded there if I had a stayed any longer a time. I got your letter since I came it got one Day the start of me but I was kindy slow. I was glad to hear that you had another good / good batch of suggar and would like to have it all down here with me for to sell but as it is let it go so. Bill is tenting with Steph and myself and Jud has got a bulley Posision he is Pioneer at Corps head qtrs and has a horse to ride. So he is all on the Goose any how. Steph is the same old thing. He had a good many question to ask about home and every thing else. I will now say I left my gun to Salamanka and the felow in the Saloon said he would Express it to father that day I had so much load to bring I never could got through if I hadent left it my things isent here yet and dont know when they will come up I left them at Brandy Station couldent bring them / I thought all the way back that I couldent never stand it to come back and sleep here on such a bed but I found myself mistakend I slep so sound all night that my head aches to day.
 
mother I will send you some NorFolk Pine from South America. Which I got out of the green house at washington in front of the capital this is it with the ink on. Also will send you some here is some apple pine. the stump and root is as long as a water pale and good eal as a beat grows and about 4 foot long every thing is so nice I cannot explain it to you. did you get the Pictures that I sent to you from Elmira. well I will make this short and write in a day or to / we expect to moove soon I will close.
