Mother
it is much satisfaction for me to take my pen in hand and converse with you a little while. I am well and feel as good as ever ma I have seen Father to day he is well he gave me $15.00 to send to you but as I had not got my pay yet so I kept a dollar to pay postage with I hated to take it out of the bill but I did ma if you want to write Father you will want to direct it to / Joseph W. Selden Washington D. C. 104 Regt N. Y. V. Co D he is not a half mile from us and I have been to see him 3 or 4 times Mother in my last letter to you I told you that we expected to leave here soon but the order was countermanded and we have not yet but our Regt is still under marching orders and we may go any day but still I shall not undertake to say when we shall go for they have fooled us so much about leaving that we do not know as we shall go but our Col says that we are still under marching orders Father says that he wants you to write to him and / let him know how he you get along he said that his hand trembils so that it is almost impossible for him to write or he should have written to you before now Oh while I think of it I want you to give me Delilahs adress whether it is Cuba or some other place I want to know so as to write to her I have not heard from her since she left home but Mother if we should go into the land of paradice or in other words go into Virginia I could not write to you as they that is the government will not alow us soldiers to write home as they think that we / might tell about some important movement that would be injurious to the servis so we have to submit to it as to all other orders you must not forget to write to me and if I am where I can I will answer them I have forgot to tell you that Monday we had a grand review of the soldiers in our Division there is was about 10,000 men there and the General that comands our Division gave us a quite a compliment he said that our regt was the best there so you need not be suprized if go but I shall have to close for want of room this from your son Willard M Selden
