Dear friend Bill
I now take this opportunity to write to you in answer to your thrice welcom letter which I received last evening it found me as well as usual & I hope these few lines will find you the same I am nursing now in the hospital near frederick city there is 950 wounded men here in this hospital I have 18 to take care of in one tent it keeps me pretty busy the first thing in the morning / is nurse built the fire nurse give me some water to wash nurse help me dress my wound nurse make my bed & so on all day long so you see it keeps me pretty busy but we have enough to eat drink & to wear & a good bed to sleep on & that is better than we ever had on the march [?] is here with me but not in the same tent thare is about 90 of our regt here nurseing. Captain hayes has got back & they expect leiut seward back to day I would like to be whare I was 14 months ago today that was the day our company was organised I believe bill I could enjoy a good hunt with / you now pretty well I am in hopes I can be there to have a cristmas ride with you but I dont know as there is much hopes if I dont then I am in hopes I shall some time when we [?] bet we will have about as good a time as ever two chaps had but I must close no more at present give my respects to all & write soon from your old friend & well wisher
