Edward E. Coxe to Robert D. Coxe, 4 February 1863
Camp new Belles
Plains Landing
Feby 4/63

Dear Bob. I wrote Father last Satdy & again yesterday; & to day I confirm both favorsx I suppose you have by this time both letters & also the Cols'. notifying you of the fact of my appointment as 2nd Lieut of "D" Co 119 P.V.

Please so inform Capt Clark of old "D" Co, (& its members of my acquaintance) his kindly aid proffered so generously I am satisfied worked considerably towards obtaining the position for me. I have to thank all my friends who have assissted me in gaining the promotion. To your Father I shall be everlastingly obliged.

If by seeing the Gov. you think the commission would be signed any earlier than the ordinary course of red tape allows, I wish, if it will not be asking too much, you would see him & try & expedite matters I leave this to your own judgement, you can act as you think advisable in the matter. I have no doubt but that the Commission will be early signed by the Governor. /

I have not yet received my box, nor do I hear anything of it. Packages, boxes &c come into Camp every week from the Landing, but still nothing for me. I heard on Sunday from an outside source (a young lady's letter to Lt Barons) that there was a box for me in Washington. How this party knew anything about it I do not know. But from the fact that I have not rec'd it, makes me think something is wrong. How did you mark it? Was it the understanding that the Co were to bring it to the regiment or to the nearest landing. We send our wagons once in a week to Belles Plains Landing & so if there is any boxes for me or the regiment they are sure to be brought up to us. Will you see to it?

I wish you would send me some envellopes & some p.o. stamps I am entirely out of both. I have plenty of paper &c

At the first opportunity, I intend applying for a furlough to come home & equip myself. I suppose I shall have to wait until the Commission arrives. / The earlier that comes then the better. Remember me to all at home & our mutual friends in the City.

                                                            & believe me as ever
                                                                        afftly yr brother
