July 24th 1864
 
Dear Parents once more with the greates of pleasure I sit down for the purpose of Copying a few lines. this morning finds Dock and I to gather in Campbell Hospital all safe and sound as when we last saw you.
 
            Dock has just come down from his Head qtrs and is feeling pretty well I guess he drives a Hurse sais he has got as nice a team as any of them and he dont have to hitch his team up onley from 1 P.M. till 6 he has a verry good time and chance He hasent had much chance to look round yet But I will get a pass and go / round the City with him he went off with a Dead Reb across the Potomack we carry all of the Dead Rebs across the the Potomack into their own Sacred V.A. Soil.
 
            the is considerable many of our Soldiers geting their discharges about this time and I wouldent mind about takeing mine for a short time but day after day is roling on which will roll me out one way or the other in less than 6 or 7 months and then I shall be in different Business am thinking. the begins to be some talk on the next presidential election but if Abe wins I think he will / carry the day without any trouble the Copperheads keep quite whist round here since the Raid. if they offer any thing the Boys shuts them in a hurry. now I will say I wrote for Em to take up that note and send to Ike what it dident take to pay the Debts which I oe and I guess Furloughs is played with oh I wouldent tak a 60 day furloug if I knew I would have to go to the front to morrow well Dock will have to go to the head Qtrs So to drive this after / noon
 
I havent recieved any letter from you yet nor any one elce
 
well I will bring this to close by saying my shoulder is as usual and I havent seen Sim yet and dont know where he is Bill hasent bin to see me yet
