As for the weather here it has bin verry nice for the past 3 or 4 days and before that it was rather cold
Now I must give you a history of our Thanksgiving first I will say we had a splendid dinner at 2 oclock table was sat with splendid Turkey Ham Bread and Gravy Cranburry Sauce Apple Sauce Mashed Potatoe & Turnip cooked Tomatoes and Green Apples to top out on. Watter was our drink the Brass band escorted us to the Dining Room then took the head of the table and played a tune then the Chaplain asked the Blessing then the dinner was eaten and some remarks made and retired for evening. I forgot to tell about the cake the was a cake made by an Old Lady who was 88 years & 11 months / of age the cake was 2 foot across and made in the shape of a large fort with portholes in and a Union flag on top with some scattering men round on top who represented to be the maners of the fort & big guns. its cost was $50.00 the Lady's Residence is in Mass. the Turkeys & Ham was also from Mass.
After dinner we retired for the Evening Ball we had the Ball in the Theatre Room. the room was trimed in splendid military form with ever green & ceder fixed in all kinds of reath & stiles with big painted letters round the room saying Stand by the Flag & / in God we Put our Trust The was Ladies here from most evory state in the Union we hired a band in the City which was verry good. We had a speech from Govener Morton of Inda he is a smart man & makes a splendid speech. it was a splendid treatment.
