                                    Dear Aunt it is with pleasure that I now improve the present oppertunity of adressing you with a few lines. This Sabath morning is verry cold and stormy it snows verry fast and steady & the sleighing is verry nice indeed and has bin evory since I have bin here. I will now say I got my Discharge a week ago last Tuesday and have bin here waiting evory since for money and if I dont get it monday or tuesday I shall start for Washington and see what I can do there. But rather settle up here because I need the money verry much. I have had verry poor luck indeed in getting musterd out of the service and settleing up. I want to get settled up and get to work somewhere for I cannot afford to lay round & do nothing—I have made up my mind to go to Washington and see what I can do there about getting into some kind of business and if I cant get into some kind of business there that will suit me I shall go some wheres else. I think I should start for Tenn. Tuesday if I was all settled up with the government. I have had a verry good chance for to go & work 3 or 6 months for large wages free transportation there & back 
 
Well I hardly know what to write to make it interesting to the said Reader. But will have the impudince to ask if you know anything about the said fellow Wm F_sk is I havent heard from him since he wrote that last letter to T_m. Please give his adress to me so I can write to him. I spose he is at home yet. But if he is not and has gone back to Washington I think I shall see him in 3 or 4 days for I am not agoing to stay here all winter. I recieved a letter from Frances & Uncle Albert the other day and have answerd it also I recieved one from Miss B_ the other day. She was well and had just got home when she wrote. She said she enjoyed her visit verry much she thought you and Frank was about write. well I will change the subject and write a little to Em and a little to mother. Sophia write soon and let me know all the news and send that adress so I can write I shall write to Edd soon as I get to washington. You may send my letter to Washington D.C., for I think I shall be there.
 
            No more as dinner is ready I shall have to go and get it. This leaves me well hoping it to find you & the rest the same. From your Friend & Relative

its with pleasure that I now improve the present oppertunity of adressing you with pen and paper. Em I am well and enjoing life as easy and comfortable as possible altho military moovements and government affairs goes a little against the graine with me. I have had to muster out on a partial decriptive list and dont get my clothing acount nor quite all of my back pay. But I am agoing on to Washington soon as I get payed up and see if I can get the rest there. Em I want you to write soon as you get this and let me know how much longer you are agoing to be engaged there in getting out that timber. I think if you are a mind to leave there and make a strike with me some where we / make something now write and if you think you can get away from there in 3 or 4 weeks I think we can do better than you are there I think now I shall start for Washington Tuesday eve. You and I can go to Tenn and get 2½ & $3.00 per day Lou would get 5$ Dollars we can have free transportation there and back. By staying 3 months and if you are taken sick and discharged by the Doctor you can come back the next day or any time the business is Carpenter & Joiners trade wood choppers $60.00 per month and found now Em if you want to go some where just say the why not how long has this bin going on. well I will close hoping to hear from you soon Please adress Mr Ephraim E Brown Washington D.C. /

Dear Parents its with pleasure that I now write you a line as I have not left here for Washington yet. I think I shall start for Washington Tuesday eve if I can possbley arange the thing here to draw my pay there I am agoing to try to get a check on the first national Bank at washington & if I can do it / I shall start Tuesday. when I get there I will write and let you know how I succeed I have written to Uncle Albert to settle up any accounts there so it will done with & I shall send him money to do it with or to pay him soon as I get it mother write soon & direct at Washington D.C. no more to day From
