Louisiana March 18th 1863
Dear Brother having a few moments leasure I thought I would write a few lines to inform you of my wellfair and helth. I am neither sick nor well the climate out here dont agree with we New hampshire boys, it is to hot for us Clover and orange trees is in blosom they have hed onions carrots and cabbage that has grown in 1863 the birds is singing merrily the musketoes bite sharp frogs is peeping it has ben summer here for some time I prosper very well my work is to cook for the Company the officers and Company took me for that work and that clears me from all other dutey / the air out here begins to be very unhelthy it begins to smell strong of gun powder Jen Banks is giving it to Rebeldom stout up to Port hudson and vitsburg Some think we shall be to Concord, N.H in april it is talked so by some of the officers they say. I hope it is so let that be as it may we shall by 15 of June Aaron I am a stronger aberletionest, since I came out here than I was in New hampshire I have ben to the Negroes meeting and it was a good meeting the spirit of the living God was with them the preachers text was in James 5 Chapter from the 1 to the 7 verce and altho he hed no Bible for he could not read he done well in quoting of it. I tell you Aaron altho they are ignorant God has / put somthing in them that they will tell all about the Relegion of his Dear Son I hope God will hasten the day when that people will be free for I say that it is to bad to keep them in bondage and I beleave that God will frown on the Nation that will do it the troops has all left here for up the river with Banks all but our Brigade and one Regt out of that among them that has gone up is the 15 N. H and we are under marching orders, but I think we shall not go for Banks will not want us Banks will whip out Rebeldom and slavery both together I hope and pray to God he and the government of the united States will, and will not stop till they whip them / both out together. there Aaron it seames that I have scribbled about enough for this time tell John J. Drew that his son John L. Drew is with us I tent with him he is smart and a nice young man. he is a great Republican and a abolishionest to boot tell Wm. S. Clark George has got smart
Aaron write me a letter write all the news tell me who is governor of the state I hope it is a Republican and not a Copperhead or Demorcrat
