Dear Sir
Your favor of the 8th inst received—I have filled the blank & mailed it as per instructions Elias was a faithful & intelligent Soldier, and his Family deserve the protection of the Govt, and the tender & fostering care of kind home friends The Patriotic People at home who have allreadey done so much to aid in assuring the success of our cause will duly have commenced their work of Patriotism, when success has fully crowned our efforts, and Peace with its glorious privileges & / blessings, shall have been permanently established
Then comes A Nations work of honor & grattitude to our maimed and scarred soldiercy, and the protection of the widows, and orphans of our dead Graves. And I know that these duties & trusts left to the survivors will be amply & cheerfully discharged
My kind regards to Capt Denny & Family also to His Father & Fathers Family, and accept the same for yourself with the earnest hope that you may long survive the triumphant & glorious vindication of the majesty of an outraged Govt Col I have the honor to be
