Dear cousins I take the
opportunity of answering your kind letter of April the third, which gave me much satisfaction to hear from you and the rest of my relatives
I am in good health at present, and have enjoyed the same since I wrote the last.
My relatives are all well as far as I know
You will please excuse me for defering to write, for when I received you letter the August election was approaching, and I was spoken of as a candidate for County Commissioners Clerk, so I defered answering you until the election was over, so I could gave you the result of my election I was elected without opposition I do not write this of a boasting / mood, for I am not of the temperment to boast of favors bestowed on me, which are in the gift of a free and independent People of these United States, but for your gratification
You say you would be glad to see me once more. should this be our lot, it would be as satisfactory to me as any earthly pleasure could afford You speak of visiting this Country before many years, be sure to come into our County, for you will find five of us in this County, and one near by in an adjoining County. I would receive you with joy and welcome you as a citizen in our community
Last spring was very late and backward, fall wheat was very good, spring wheat very indiferent Beets very good, and as promising a prospect for corn as heart could wish
Thomas Govelson and Brother John moved to this Country last spring they are pretty well satisfied with the fertility and friability of the soil /
The health of the People is tolerable good, the Chollera has not visited of our town, and but two cases in our County, though it is taking its thousand in other parts
You say in your letter that Miss Nelly Roberts is married, good luck for her; if you should see her tell her I wish her all the happiness of this life, & good luck, as long as she lives
I am preparing to build me a small house in our town this fall, but I have no contract of Marriage.
Write as soon as convenient, and let me know when you will visit our country. I hear old Indiana has elected her democratick Gov.
