Thomas Sumter Weston
Thomas Sumter Weston was born around 1836 to John and Elizabeth Weston. His family moved to Texas sometime in the antebellum era, and he enlisted in the Confederate army in September 1861. He mustered in as a 1st lieutenant in Company H of the 8th Texas Cavalry on September 7, 1861. He was promoted to captain in February 1863. He spent the winter of 1863-1864 in Decatur, Alabama recovering from an illness, but he rejoined the regiment by the summer of 1865. He served as commander of the regiment from April 1865 until he surrendered to Union forces on May 26, 1865. Weston returned home to Texas after the war, and he died there on February 11, 1880.
