        Tom S. Weston—Gentlemen,
Your note of yesterday, together with the valuable & timely present accompanying it, has been Recd. Language fails to express the feelings of my heart at this testimonial, which my gallant Comrades in Arms have given thro you to my feeble labors for their “temporal & spiritual good”. For almost three long years we have shared together in the fortunes & misfortunes of the Army of Tennessee, & during that time “Our Heavenly Father” has blessed our regiment with Remrkable outpourings of His Holy Spirit. With Such Evidences of Divine approval & substantial appearances of the approbation & co-operation of those whom you represent, I shall esteem it my highest privilege to suffer with you in our Country’s glorious Cause, and whether in Camp or temporary bivouac during the march or raid to preach the glad tidings of Salvation. You will bear to the donors my hearty thanks for their noble gift present which will enable me to follow accompany them wherever duty leads them rejoice with them in their Success, or to Sympathize in the hour of Misfortune and affliction.
Believe me as ever your Comrade in arms, your friend in sorrow & your brother in the precious faith of the Gospel
