Dear Brother & Sister
Yours of the 4th is before mee and as I have fiew lesure moments I will embrace the presant oportunity of answering it. I received yours last evning and was very glad to heare from you and that you waire all well. I am well at presant and have bin ever cince I have bin hear I doant think I wrote that i was sick if I did it was a mistake I wrote that I dident feele very good at the time I wrote but was dewing deuty. Still, I have never bin heartyer in my life than I have bin cince I have bin in the cervis and hope thies fiew lines may / finde you all engoying the same state of health. I would have come to see you when I was up and had intended to when I started from Frenchtown but I was sick all the time I was theare, and Sam made mee a little mad and when I get so I cant engoy my self so I thought i woulde go back again and come up soon again, but as i was working on Monday afternoon I tuck a notion to goe Trenton the next morning and list. I never tolde any body that i was goyng I dresed myself in the morning and went in to breakfas. They wanted to know weare I was goyng I tolde them I was goyng to list but they dident believe mee so when the cares came I went in and shuck hands with them and bid them good buy / they began to think I was in urnist about goyng but so wags the world you wrote you had a young son and wanted mee to send him a name and a nice one well Ill be daged if I know hardley what name to give him but I will send him one and if you doant like it write and I will try to suite you beter heare it is in full William R Montgomery Warman. this is after our late Col now Brigadier Jeneral and govnor of Alexandra and a very fine man he is I wish we wair under him yet. you said you was agoyng to moove well we have mooved from that splended place I wrote about we have a splended encampmen now and expecte to stay a while we are building two large forts an brest works two miles long from one forte to the other / So If we get company we will be able to receive them our camp and the rebbels are only about three miles apart and in sight of each other and have bin for the last three weeks wee are getting quite familiar with them our pickets and thears threw down theare armes the other day and met half way betwen there posts and shuck hands with each other and talked togather quite a while and then returned to there posts again our out side pickets & thers isent over a hundred yards from each other so you may think we are not backing of from them we had some fun with them when they firs came to masons hill. Some of the boys went up to the cross roads to take a look at them on thear way up they found a stove cilender and put it on an olde wagon and run it out in the roade so they coulde see it and comenced loading it with a stick of wood they thinking it was a cannon fired on them they fired eight ten pounders at them and the boys returned to thre quarters some of them prity well fritened.
