Dear Brother & Sister
Yours of the fifth is at hand, wich I received in due time, and as I have a fiew moments lesure I embrace the presant opportunity of answering it I was pleased to hear from you and to here that you was all well. I am still well and in good health, and hope thies fiew lines will finde you all engoying the same health. I havent any war news of any conciquence to give you at presant as ther has nothing of any importance transpired within our lines cince I wrote you last. So you will pleas excuse the shortnes of my letter for this time, and I will try to give you something better nexte time I would lik to send you a presant very mutch Tom but I declair I havent / any thing to send you at presant But I think some of coming home some time betwen this and spring and if I do I will try and mak you a presant of some kinde. we are still encamped in the same old place and have fixed up for winter quarters we have our tents fixed so that they are as comfortable almost as a house we set logs in a circul in the ground and let them stick out about for feet and then plastered up the cracks with mud and then raised the tents on them. it makes them roomey and warm we have a good stove in and live as comfortable as a hog on ice I got in from the mills on new years day and had a very plesant time of it whilest out I had a gay olde time on Christmas plenty of turkeys chickens ducks &c we sent out an expidition the night befor Christmas and they met with very good luck so we had / a great feast a fiew bottels of good old Able whiskey.
We have had very unplesant weather cince new years it has bin colde and we had about 2 inches of snow first and then it comenced raining and has bin ever cince of and on untill laste night it ceard of but it is so aufful mudy that we can cairsley get around the camp with out getting in over our boot tops. I received a letter from Sam a fiew days ago, and one from John I have got the toth ach like h—l and I will have to quit wrighting and get ready for dress parrade we got paide of yesterday for the last two mounths laste saturday it has bin a long time coming but it is beter late than never they say nothing mor at presant but my love to you all and remain as ever
