Camp Seminary VA. Jan 29th/62
Dear Brother & Sister
Yours of the 19th is at hand and as I have a fiew moments lesure I embrace the presant opportunity of answering it I received yours with plesure and was glad to hear from you and that you was all well I am quite well at presant and hope thoes fiew lines will finde you the same. I have no news of any importance to wright you at presant as ther has nothing of any importance transpired with in our lines cince I wrote you laste onley we have very bad disagreable weather here yet it hasent cleared off yet I havent sean the sun but twice cince I rote you befor we have bin out on picket for seven days cince and had a very plesant time of it concidering the snow and rain we had to contend with we did not get a peak at the rebbels this time
I gues they have gon in ther holes for the winter but Tom we will sende them in ther holes so far when the weather will permit that they will never get out a gain for the grand strik will be made as soon as the troops can be mooved the litel Jeneral is ready for them but it is imposible for to moove artilery at the presant time and an other thing there isent a spot of ground betwixt her and richmond that is fit to manover 25 000 men on I suppose it looks to you as if we had bin doing nothing cince we waire hear but we have done a good bit of work and work of great importance for we have got the capitol fortfied now so that it is safe but when we came here washington cold have bin taken very easly but it is safe now and whileste we have bin laying here they have bin working all around us and we have got them on a string now. it will take but a short time to settel them / when the roads gets so we can moove we have had no chance to make an advance only on manassas, and we was there once and new that it coulde not be taken with out a great los of lives untill we got in behinde them so that we could attack them from mor than one point. the nexte time we go there we will go through to Richmond like a dose of salts in my opinion
I want you to understand this is mearley my one opinion of the mater I doant know any thing about the littel Jenerals plans or intentions we had a small sketch of the Burnside expidition to day they have done nothing yet but have encountered prity harde weather with some los but feel shure of success in there undertakens. I believe I have given you all the news I am master of at presant so I will bring my letter to a close by sending my best respects to you and all enquiren friends nothing mor at presant but remain as ever your Brother and well wisher
PS wright soon Dnl R Forgus
