Camp Seminary Virginia Feb 16th/62
 
Dear Brother and Sister
                                                Yours of the 9th is at hand wich I received in do time but have bin to lazey to answer it untill know, and in facte I am now laying on my back wrighting this on acount of being to lazey to sit up. So I hope you will excuse the penman ship of this short epistel witch I am about to adress to you I was sorrey to hear that you waire not in as good health as eusal but hope by the time you receive this you will bee all right again I am still well and in good health hearty as an olde buck. I think sometimes that I am getting younger again untill I happen to look in the glass and see my wiskers all turning grey that spoyles it all / but that that is nothing let her rip I think Ile weather through this if nothing hapens and I doant stop a bulit, but I doant believe there will bee any sutch good luck as that
 
Well I have no news of any conciquence to give you at presant from the armey of the Potomace as there has bin nothing doing cince I wrote you laste, but we have had plenty of mud ever cince till now we have about four inches of snow that fell cince yesterday morning but it is clear to day and the sun shines very warm so I think we will have a litel mor mud for a change we have had two brigade drills cince I wrote you laste and have drilled the company twise in the baynet exersise. we drill a half hour every day in a tent we have errected for that purpus so that when the weather / is fit we drill the company in squads. this is all the news from theas parts and we havent had no acount from Burnside as yet but expecte to have to marrow. we have the reble acount and they admit that they are badley wiped and I shoulde think they was to by all acounts. we have news to day that Boling Green is evacuated and oure troops following up the enemy the fight still goying on at Forte Donelson and will be taken within two days if it hast to be taken by the baynet. I have sean the acount of the wonded in the ninth New Jersey there was sixteen wonded and nun killed. William is in the ninth we have a new recrute in oure company that is acquanted with him and he tolde me that it was so I heard from John a fiew days cince and from Sam and James 
 
I havent sean or heard from Thompson cince he has bin at Washington I hear from the children every week they are all well nothing more at presant but remain as ever your
