But having a fiew moments lesure this Sunday evning and the twenty second of Febuary I thought I would availe myself of the opportunitey of answering it, and let you know that I am still in the land of the living and on fare footting with my comrads in armes Thomas I have no news of aney importance to write you at this date as every thing is very quiet here in the armey of the Potomac and no prospecte of a moove for / some time. We have had an awful snow storm here it commenced snowing last night about ten oclock and snowed till nearley night to day one of the largest we have had cince Ive bin in the cervis it is near two feet on the level. Its rather dusty for the soldiers in the shelter tents but we must grin and beare it. its all for the poor Negroe the poor White trash is of no acount let them suffer we will take good care of the blacks (we want the blacks.) the whites we have got fast but I think I have writen a plenty of this kind of nonsence for once I expecte you have bin looking for me out befor this time. But I havent come yet. I havent sent inn my furlough yet and may not for some time to come, for two good reasons one is I have about / two hundred dollars worth of Boots on the way to me, and am expecting them every day, and I do not want to bee away when they come or I might loos some of them for the Boys in the armey is none to honest although I am in it. And the next is I am expecting a commision now soon and it would not doe for me to bee away at presant on that acount. But I shall try and get up to see you yet if I can betwixt this and the first of Aprile I would like very mutch to see the children if it wair not for them I believe I would not try to get home untill my time was out and I hope that will bee before maney months, for I think this ware has bin goying on quite quite long enuph. I think there will be something done by May or / June. But its getting late and I must close this poorley writen letter for this time by stating that I am well and in good health at presant and hope this may find you all engoying the same blesing. My love and best respects to you all and compliments to all inquiren friends if there is aney so unfortunate as to be acquainted with me good night for the presant.
