Friend Dinah
As I hav just returned from the hospital whear I saw Joseph so agreeable to his request I will write you a few lines I went their last night it is a bout three milds from camp in a large house warmed by fire places a very comfortable place in deed and I found him feeling very well much better than I expected to he keeps up good spirits the fever has turned and I think that he will get up soon if nothing new sets in he has good care far beter than I expected a Soldier would ever meet with he had been tough and rugged nearly all the time till the first of January at that time was whear he now is in the same house taking care of Lieut Phelps who died the 2th day of Jan I think if I had been to camp when he wa taken I could broke up the fever but maby not. but as I said before I think that he has seen the worst time he is weak to bee sure but this morning he ate a slice of bread as large as my hand tosted and butterd / and a bout a table spoonful of raspberry preserves he said it tasted good I took care of him and 8 others till two O clock last night I dont know as their is eny thing more that I can tell you about him but if their should bee eny chang for the worst I will let you know at once. As for my self I am tough and harty I weigh 175 Lbs almost 25 Lbs more than I weighed befour and with the exception of a bad cough what they call the Virginia cough I never was more helthy in my life the weather hear is warm wet and muddy last night it began to snow a bout twelv and snowed till nearly day light and then it began to rain it is very warm to day I hav no partickular news to write so I will close by saying good night
