Joseph W. Luxford
Joseph W. Luxford was born on March 7, 1838, in Kent County, England. He was baptized in Halden, England, on April 22, 1838, and the family lived in Biddenden, England, in the early 1840s. They immigrated to America in the mid-1840s and settled in Sheldon, Vermont. They moved to Troy, Vermont, in the 1850s. He enlisted in the Union army on August 29, 1861, and he mustered in as a private in Company D of the 6th Vermont Infantry on October 15. He died of diphtheria in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on February 23, 1862.
