            Dear Parents
I will pen you afew lines as there is a chance to send letters in about twenty minutes from now and I dont know when I shall have another chance. We left Hampton last Friday the 4th inst marched to Big Bethel about six miles and stopped for the night the next day marched five or six miles farther and halted and are here now expecting to move every moment on to Yorktown where we expect a fight and we are ready for it and Mc lellan is with us. We have passed two quite formidable earthworks that the enemy vacated just before our arrival. There has been several boys shot by our own men while out killing hogs. one Heath in our company wounded in the leg. one killed in the 69th Pa Please answer soon direct as last orderd
