Whear the hard Battel was foght and we lost so meney men it is a sad looking plase there to gorge phelps and Jack Crown and gilman Carey are in camped on the field it aint onley 1½ mild from me but i cant go and see sim becaus we hafto stay in camp all the time for we dont no when we shall hafto fight hear we lay so clost to the rebbels that they shot from there pakets into our camp with moskets and hit 3 men they shell ous every day but to no hurt they cant make ous fight them till we get redey to then we will / We will give them hell right under the shirt tale that is if they dont give ous it i am well at present and never had beter helth in my life than i now injoye But i dont like so much hot wether as we have hear and sech hard ranes to We hant had eney for 3 or for days hear and we think that you are geting som up there hope so eney way ithink you had beter lookout for hay in season i should lik to no how hay is gointo be there this year and i should likto no if you get my state pay or not and and i should likto no if you have had a check to draw som money from my elotmant role and hoa lives in the new hous &c &c turn ovr / jest let me no how much money James McGibbon has sent home if you pleas cainder sly to let me no how the colts get along and cows to and all things to the chrilden sirtinley and your self to and dont let the chrilen sufer for eney thing as long as you can draw eney pay and i probly shant be at home to spend the 4 of Juli with you so i want you should give the boys 1 dolar a peas to spend out of my money and dont cheat them now and have a good time your self to if there is eney money left and dont let the boys go bare foot that day nor in ther shirt sleaves eather have them look well and mandy the same to jest give my love to all hoe noes me and jest / let me no where edr Edward Wood workes this sumer and how much he gets amonth jest tell Harvey Johnson he is a nice felow to right to me i have rote to him and he haint never answerd it and i shant right till he does
