            Dear Parents
Yours of the 10th inst was duly received to night and I was very glad to hear from you as I am feeling very blue just now. I have been almost down sick for four or five days I have got a very bad cold a lame back and a very sore throat to day but am in hopes of feeling better soon. Since I last wrote you we have moved about two miles nearer to Yorktown. on our arrival here two companies (I. & H.) were sent out on Picket within one half a mile of the rebel batteries and in very plain sight of them they have throwed several shell at us without much effect however there has been one man killed one wounded and a horse / killed but not of our regiment. as I am feeling so unwell to night I will not write you much the boys are all complaining of bad colds owing to the recent storm. The mail closes I must I will try to do better next time

                                                                        Yours &c
                                                                                    Sergt W.W. Bosworth
