James P. McKinney to Robert C. McKinney, 1 September 1885
New York Sept. 1st 1885

Dear Bro.
I arrived here last eve. via Day light boat from Albany spent Sabbath with Uncle Sam, found them all well except Will, who has not been well for some time he is now in the country. Uncle Sam, Will, & Jim were at Ansbury Park the same time you were. It is very hot here and we feel it more after the cool weather we have had the past two weeks. I will not stay in the city long but go to the sea shore where it will be cooler, expect to get home Sat, but possibly may not before Monday or Tues. expect to go in the day train from here. I want if possible to stop in Phil. a day cant tell now whether I will or not as I am anxious to get home. Will you see that Groetzinger put two thickness of lining under all carpets except back bed room and small / room over kitchen. please order a Dining room and kitchen table for me, the same as yours. I selected one at McClintocks but will not take it as yours was cheaper. Have Mary get things in shape as far as possible so I can go into the house soon after I get back.

Will write Mother tomorrow if I can get the time you know how hard it is when you are traveling. Love to all
                                    Yr Bro             James
