Point Lookout Md
July 1st
Dear Father I take take up my pen to let you know how I am getting along out here on the Point well I am enjoying very good health just now and I acknowledege to God that it is a very great blessing when there is so much sickness.
I was on Patrol when the boys came over and told me that there was a letter for me so I got leave of the corporal and came over to camp and got it the Patrol are 45 men that are divided in two reliefs which march around in the Prisoners pen and see that all the rebs are all right they stand 4 hours on a stretch I was on from 9 till 1 PM.
I got a letter from Cousin Mary / she wrote it for Uncle Samule as he did not have time I also got a paper from some body in Troy I do not know who sent it.
Robert spoke of our church having a Picnic and I would like to be home and go with them I guess you could spare me. if you would come here you would have a good Picnic only it is a little to far from home our regt got mustered for two months pay yesterday but I do not expect to get any before I come home it will be 2 months tomorrow since we was called out Robert spoke of Mother sending the box well I can get some things here but they are higher and they would not taste so good as if they came from home but if you think it / would cost to much you need not mind I would like some tea but that what is out here is not good for much, and I only wish I could get a hold of some of the nice little cake that my dear Mother used to make.
I hope you may all enjoy the 4th of July and tell Robert to be careful not to get hurt I hope I will see Robert name in the paper and that he passed into the Intermmediate school.
they are continually bringing more prisoners here and they are making the pen larger. the rebels say that after awhile they will have enough here to hold the Point but I guess they will get mistaken a nother regt of negro landed here to day they are from the East /
I received the Psalm Book to day. I hope this will find you all well for I am always thinking of you and I hope I will be home soon with you if God spares me. this thought just came in my head that if you send a box you had best send me some kind of medicine that is good fore the diarreaha you can tell Dr Smith what it is for I have not got it now but I might for that is what most of the boys have got
