William E. Isbell to Angelina Isbell, 11 July 1861
Staunton July 11th 1861

Dear Mother:
Since writing to Uncle Fred (8th) I have gotten better, but am quite sick yet. I have been broken out very badly indeed, but my flesh is now fast resuming its natural color. I am very glad that it there is but one for a person to have the measles for I have not got quite through with them once yet & I can assure you I have had no pleasant time of it If I have good luck in three or four more days I will be able to go out. some of our boys are now going about No doubt we will begin to leave this place next week, probably I will be able by the latter part of it possibly earlier I do not want to leave until I hear from Uncle Fred
A Letter written from home to this place ought to be sent by Lynchburg for they will get here the same day that they start from that place If the letter that I wrote to / Uncle F. Monday has not been received this one will not be under stood nevertheless I am too unwell to do better at present Dear Mother do not give yourself any uneasiness becaus of on my account for believing the cause which I have espoused to be just & holy consequently Gods I am willing to suffer & die in its defence. Let all tears that are shed be spilt at his feet & we will shall be more than conquerors

                                                                                    Your Affectionate Son
