Sir I take the pleasure of riteing these few lines to you in hopeing to find you and your family in god helth as the parting of this leaves me and my combrades thanks be to god
Dear friend thomas we got payed on the 5th and to day I send you $20 Dollars by express in the same packad that edward freel sends his as soone as it arrives you be pleast to rite to me and let me now if the 20 come safe We are encampt 1 mile from the James river and dose not entend to moove untill the Reignforcements comes the wether is verry warm and sultry / heare John conan send wourd heare to John Carr to now if he would pay him the Board let John conan make James carr pay it for it was him that made John Carr to go to Board with John conan and when I go home I will make James carr pay for more then to mounths board
Mr hagerty if you did not rite to the old country yet when this letter comes to hand rite and let them now all particulars
Mr hagerty heare is one Dollar for you to drinck my helth in this letter No more at presant from your true friend John Carr
