Dear sir I take the presant oppertunty of droping you a few lines to inform you that I have not bin well for six or eight days I have had a lite attact of flucks which weekend me down very much but I am fast recruting now an will be able for duty in a few days I hope these few lines may reach you an famley in the injoyment of good health we have nothing in camp of intrust at presant our pickits / have a little brush every day or two an we exspect a big fight every day but have had none yet our men are geting impacient they want to disstinguish them selves in a big fight they are as cean as briers but I exspect one battle will satisfy them fore a while at least it will do me as I dont injoy fiting as much as som people I exspect we will stay here this winter we are cuting loag to bild huts for winter quarters but I hope we will not have to stay in this ruget mounton thare is nothing out here but rocks an mountons /
 
I received a letter from my wife a few days a go stating that she wanted som money for the use of the famley I have som money in the valley bank I inclose a check for one hundred an fifty dollars to you I want you to send my wife fifty dollars as son as posable the ballence I want you to keep an use as you may think best till I get strapt please attend to this faver for me an oblige yours &c I have nothing of importance to write to you at this time so / I must close by sending my complements an best wishes to you an famley
