My Dear wife I am truley thankful that I am permited to ad dress you fiew lins to let you no that I am well and I truley hope when those fiew lins comes to hand tha will find you all well and doing well
 
I recived your cind and wellcom letter nite before last and was glad to hear from you and the children and to hear that you was well we left Macon Citey the day before yesterday at 12 Oclock and the Old Engine broke and tha had to run with one side and we didnot get in the City until five oclock in the morning and we stad at the Depo until we got oarders to go out to the Barracks and then we was marched out thare and when we landed we was hungery and tierd /
 
Our boys is in fine sperits and generely well a fiew of the boys has the mumps and I dont but what I will them. Som thinks that we will be moved from hear before long I cant tell how soon it will be I think when we move from hear we go down to vicks burg tha say the rebls is conserentating all of thare foarses thare in the south west Rittey Ann If I liv I exsepect to hear the cannons roar and exspect to hav to face them and if fall in battel or els whear my hope and desier and prair to is that I will go to heven and imortal gloury whear I will find rest for my soal my desier is for you and the children to try to meete me thare now I must close write soon
