Dear Brother & Sister
I avail myself of this oppertunity of writing you afew lines which leaves us all in the enjoyment of moderate health and I hope these few lines may come to hand in due time and find all well and doing well
I recd your kind letter of Nov the 27th 1864 which I was truly glad to receive I was truly glad to learn that you had served out your time in the u s service and got home alive but I was very sorry to hear of your eyes being in such bad condition but I hope they will soon get well under the kind treatment of the family circle for I have come to the conclusion that the man that serves his Country for the term of three years is worthy of all the kindness that an affectionate wife and obedient children can bestow upon them
I am truly sorry that you couldent come out and see us for we are very anxious to see you and all the rest of the family
you wished me to write how I am geting along the times is hard here at present corn is 1 dollars per bu wheat 1,50 per bu I think I have made about corn enough to do me until spring I have still got my old mare she is pert yet I think I have hogs enough to make my meat another year Net is living with Mrs Packwood since last spring and I dont know how much longer she may live there yet Pheba Ann is working out most of the time Pork is worth 12 dollars per hundred here now and it is said there is not 1 hog to the family this Country I have bin weaving of a fall for clothing for the children but as for the future I cant tell though I hope I shall be able to make out some way the severe drouth that has privailed here for two years goes hard with the people
Wm Sanders sold out in Davis County and moved up here and then he bought a place near the Indian Springs the John Downs Place near old billy Elkins Place
Senith got married with James Bridges about the 5th of Sept last and Bridge was drafted and left the same week and is now at Savanah Georgia and America Jane Ritter got married last July to one Thomas N. Andersen in Lawrence County a man that I suppose you never seen
Anna's family is in common health and lives upon white river near where we use to live Isaac sais he makes 75 cts per day at work
Wm Sanders folks is well as far as I know sinthy Minicks was at my house was at my house the other day and they was all well. Isaac has not come home yet although he was musterd out of the service last July at Neworleans La
there has 4 of the Bomans has died this fall and Sinthy sais she is going to move down there before agreat while
B.F. smith was discharged at Neworleans with Minicks and hasent returned yet
Thomas sais to Jacob that he can chop down large trees and work the mare in the sled and do a heep of work and tell Jacob if he will over I will make him a sled me and the children all send our love to both of you and all the children
well I must close this letter by asking you to excuse mistakes and write often and give me all the good news you can yours as ever
