Seth W. Kingsley
Seth W. Kingsley was born on July 21, 1844, in Hatfield, Massachusetts, to Moses and Rachel Kingsley. His father was a farmer who owned $1,200 of real estate and $500 of personal property by 1860. He grew up and attended school in Hatfield.
 
He enlisted in the Union army in October 1862, and he mustered in as a private in Company K of the 52nd Massachusetts Militia Infantry. He mustered out on August 14, 1863.
 
He returned to Hatfield after leaving the army, and he married Mary E. White on April 29, 1868. They had three children: Alma, born around 1870; Hattie, born around 1873; and Lydia, born around 1874. They lived in Hatfield, and Kingsley worked as a blacksmith. By 1870, he owned $3,000 of real estate and $1,300 of personal property.
 
He applied for a federal pension in September 1903 and eventually received one. His wife died in 1916, and by 1920, he was living in his daughter Hattie’s household. He attended veterans’ reunions and Memorial Day ceremonies until at least 1927. He died on July 24, 1930.
