Dear companion i write a few lines informing you that i am well hopeing these lines will reach you the same. the reason that i have not written is that we have been out on a scout or raid for the last 5 weeks we have traviled over 3 hundred milds we was mostely in the state of Alabama we had a hard time of it we carried our knapsacks every day had two skirmishes with the rebs took a few prisioners and killed a few we had to forage part of the time for a living we are back now within 14 milds of Atlanta we ware paid this morning i got $1,71 i send you $1,80 i had some left of my other pay
we may go into winter quarters soon if we dont go out on another raid there is talk of our going to Mobeal that will be a long tramp

Chattanooga Tenn in place of Atlanta we had an election in our reg the other day Old Abe got 2 hundred and 2 votes and Mclelen got 2 we all think that the war will be over by spring i wish it was over now for i am sick and tiered of it and i want to be at home with my family once more yes i do
i sent that money by a capt of the 100 Ind that was going home there was so many sending by him that i thought it would be than to run the risk of being whare i could express it my self he is to express it from Indianaplis i was happy to receive a letter from you yesterday yes i had not herd from you for some time you nead not fear about the green backs going down other money may but if you want a kitchen bilt just have it bilt sute your self do as you pleas with the money that i send to you now Ruth pleas let me know as to your own individual health / you had better get that girl that you spoke off well they say the mail is going to start so i will have to close well i will write more next time yours untill death
