I am happy to inform you that i am well except my wound and that is doing verry well it is healed up but it is far from being well inside…O my dear wife how i wish i ware with you to spend this Christmas but i must spend it away down hear on the sea shore at this large building built of semeted oyster and other shels

Ruth i will try to finish this letter i cannot write but a short time at once for my arm pains me so i dont know whether i will / ever get the use of it or not we will be mustered the last day of this month and maby paid soon after then some of us will get furloes i cannot tell yet whether i will get one or not but i shall try hard for one we have been hear 5 or 6 days
Shermans army is in posession of Savanah and all other rebbel strong holds in this vicinity the general opinion hear is that the war will be over by spring may god speed the happy day yes i long to be at home whare i can spend the remainder of my life in peace and prepare for a place whare sin and sorrow never comes whare our / poor troubled souls will be forever at rest i wrote to you a few days ago. at that time we ware stopt at a large rice plantation and ocupied some negroe shanties
pleas excuse me for not writeing more for it hurts my arm so i cannot write but a line or two at a time
