John G. Scoville to Ruth C. Scoville, 16 May 1865
May 16..65

this is a beautiful morning O i wish i knew that you ware all well. i am well except my eyes are geting sore i will have to stop night watching for i can not sleep much in the day time. i do not know what to write that will be interesting

Give me a life with with my lady love
In a cot by the bubling brook
Or in some beautiful shady grove
Away in some silvery nook /

A home is pleasent any whare
If soles unite in love
And join in harmony to share
The blessings from above

O may it be my happy lot
Some comfort yet to see
And in some prety little cot
Spend my life with thee

O do not laughf at lines like these
They are written not in vain
And if they can not please
O may they give no pain

well i will if i live be at home soon yours forever      J.G.S.
