Dear companion i am well hopeing you are the same my eyes are sore but i think they will be all rite in a few days i cannot find out yet just how soon i will get my discharge the papers are made out and they are waiting for orders i am geting out of pacients wateing i think they dont show us vetrans justice by holding us and dischargeing those that had served but a short time. there is no fairness in it it is a mean way of doing thats so / but there is no help for it well i suppose our turn will come befor long. if i dont write to Governor Stone of Iowa so help me God and see if he wont do some thing for me i got acuainted with him at Nashville last summer he was then in rout for the Shermans army he made a speach to our regt the next day after i got to it after being at Nashville sick well i dont know as he can do any thing but i will see
So i have been waiting in hopes that i would have some thing better to write but we have had no examination yet
Governor Stone will be hear next Saturday maby he will do something
i think we will be paid soon and i will express some money to you for i expect you nead it. i received a letter from SSS a few days since they ware all well he says that Emeline has mooved to Mishigan and that Jim treats her mean the skunk i never expected any thing better of him Lavinna still lives in Marshal Co Ind
well this will do for 2 or three letters but if you will forgive me this time i will write oftener i think i will get home before a greate while i will have my discharge soon or have a fuss with these fool doctors Now Ruth dont get out of pacience allthough i know it is hard for you to be alone so long but god doeth all things well i shall do all in my power to get home as soon as i can pleas write ofton and i will do the same i remain your affectionate husband John G Scoville
