Donalsonville July the 19 1863
Dear Brother
I received your kind letter on the 17 but as I had jest wrote you aletter a day or too before I did not hurry eney to answer it we are laying here in the shade and enjoying our selfs the best we can I cut my foot on a piece of glass the other day so I cannot do duty but as there is not much to do it dont make much odds I have got it stuck together with coart plaster and keep it wet with as cold water as I can get here and it is doing first rate I showed it to old Darling and he blowed aconsiderable but that was all the good it done but the stewart don it up for me yes old Darling is here blowing around as useale but the day the battel he lost all his hospital stores and about everything / but his horse and Ile warnt he made good use of that but he has got on anew supply of quineen and hydygyrigh
A U Brown is in New York City and have bin there some time he wrote to some of the boys that they wouldent let him and some other one come on for the reg was coming home in a few days but I cant see the point yet and Ike Leavis is at Baton taking care of some of the sick boys so hy Scoofield jest told me he was taken sick while at store plains but has got well and is taking care of some boys yet. but the Col has gon up after Co I and some other ones that is up there most all the boys is here or at Baton R Frank Page is here but there is onely about 200 here in the regtment now and about thirty in Co A Gibson has bin sick ever since we wer in front of port hudson he is at Baton. Seeley, Hill and quite anumber others are there it is very warm here now but we have / got avery good shade tree to write under and a table to write on and a cracker box to sit on but we cant get out of the lines to get corn and chickens so we dont live quite so high as we use to I received three letters with yours the other day one from Julie Loveridge they wer well she said she had not hurd from you in some time also one from Hess and apaper from har Oh Since you sent me them peney stamps I cant get hold of eney papers onely what is sent from the north I tried hard to get a port hudson paper when we came through but I could not our Adg has got to be Lieut Col and the story is to day that mager Strong is going home in afew days and a Lieut in Co G is acting as Adgedent now I spose if you hapen to get hold of a courier you will see all our performents in it I wish when you write again you would give me O F Longs address and if you write / to him give him mine and tel him to write I would wrote to him before this but I did not know where to write you spoke of lots of letters being writen to me I have not seen but few from around there well I have scribeled about enough and I will give some one else achance So Good By
