Pernecy Riddle (maiden name unknown) was born on October 1, 1838, in South Carolina. She married William Marion Riddle, and they had at least ten children: Susan, born around 1858; William, born around 1860; Franklin, born around 1862; Rebecca, born around 1866; Lou, born around 1866; Lonar, born around 1872; Lee, born around 1873; Buford, born around 1875; James, born around 1877; and Marvin, born around 1879. They lived in Youngs, South Carolina, and her husband worked as a farmer.
By May 1864, she had apparently grown frustrated with the war. She denounced it as a “cruel war” and a “troublesome war,” and she had “seen enough by this war to make me me [sic] sick of it and I am tired and double tired of it.”
By 1870, they owned $1,000 of real estate and $200 of personal property. Her husband died on July 19, 1886. By 1900, she and several children were living in King, Arkansas, and she was working as a farmer. By 1920, she was living in her daughter Rebecca’s household in Spadra, Arkansas. She died on December 10, 1922.
