Dear companion i was happy to receive a letter from you yesterday of the 1 of June i have written several since that date i am just middleing well to day. we have had 4 days march from Corinth and have stopt hear in this pleasent town to rest over Sunday we are in camp in nice lot of two acres full of shade trees we had inspection to day in the cort yard there was lots of rebbels hear 3 days a go but they skedaddled when they herd we ware coming. i may stay hear some time to hold and gard the railroad but we may go to Memphus soon / it is verry hot and the country poorly wattered and the roads verry dusty we had the hardest tramp that we have yet experienced we had our knapsacks to carry mine was heaver than lots of the boys for some of them throw a way there clothing and blankets i had 3 blankets one coat one overcoat some shirts and some other little things in my knapsack then catrage box and 60 rounds of catrages my gun my haver sack with 2 days rations in it and my canteen of watter which all together makes a heavey load to carry well i kept in ranks the first day the seccond day i gave out and came up at nite the 3rd day i done the same the 4th day i / started with the reg but was unable to walk more than 3 or 4 milds i was sick allover and over hot so that when i got out of ranks i lay down beside the road swet untill my clothes ware wet through trembling and weak as i was i rested then picked up my traps and went on half mild found some watter a short distance from the road. then i concluded to take a good rest under the shade of a large dogwood i washed my self felt some better lay down did not intend going to sleep but did (it is not safe for one to go to sleep heare alone) when i awoke an artilery train had come up and fed / one of there horses had been eating and stomping flyes for 2 hours close to my side yet all there racket stoping and feeding had not disturbed my repose O what a sweet sleep i felt so much better i had been dreaming of home as i ofton do. home yes home if loved ones there is caled home. Good morning Ruth it is Monday morning 3 oclock June 16 well, well yes i am tolerable well how are you. then i picked up my things again walked on some 4 milds stopt for the nite made some tea broild my beef on a stick ate some made down my bed under a large tree but did not sleep rested some 3 hours our division train come along and took my knapsack on there waggons i was received
