Dear Brother
Your kind letter came to hand in due time and I was very glad to learn that you wer all well your letter found me in good health with a large boil on my stern which is nearly well the Co is in good helth now it is warm and pleasent here now you wanted to know a bout some of the boys well Chriss Such is well and sends his compliments Jinks is with his co is well and sends his best wishes Brown is not here has never come to the regt is in New York I believe. one of Co Ds boyes told me yesterday that he saw a fellow that be longed to the 75 was taken / prisiner of the gunboat Clifton at Sabine and had bin with Co D and got a way from the rebes he says that they wer on red river at reeds or sweeds port he said that there was 17 of Co D left and that Josiah Hiler was among them this fellow got away up there and lived 14 days mostley on roasted corn but came through all right. Jim Sincebox Brother was here last week three or 4 days he came from Ill and we had a jolley time the Capt went down to N.O. with him ed Sincebox and his uncle talks some of taking a gov plantaion some whare down here
well pete you tell Si I am glad he is doing so well for his country but I dont think that uncle Sam will need him or his boy yet awhile. well Pete I sent a book the other mail that I got at donalsonville and / I want you to keep it for me and I will send a pen in this one point is brok off it was a good pen before it was broke and mabe you can get it fixed I have got another Hess sent to NY and got six I took one
Feb 28th it is Sunday last night there was a gunboat came up to town and Capt came back and we have marching orders So I spose we will move soon and the most of them think up to red river whare Co D is we are to be mustered to morrow for pay but I dont know wether we will get it before we leave or not if we do I will send some of it to you and you must pay for the things that you have sent me and send me some more stamps every now and then I wish you would let me know what it cost to send that box and what you paid & &c &c the Chaplain gave us a record to / fill out I got two I will send one of them home and tell mother if she can fill it out eney more to do so and keep it Well here comes Sergt Parmer for meeting and I guess I will go to I have returned and had a good sermon from the Chaplain of the 160 NYV it was in a church and it was full there was one woman and that was a Capt wife they say
