Calvin W. Lewis to Luther W. Hopkins, 16 November 1910
Nov. 16, 1910.

Friend Hopkins,—I enclose herewith a picture of "Old Nell", the mule spoken of in an issue of "Our Fourfooted Friends" of which I lately sent you a copy. The picture is one of several which the present owner of the mule, J. Sanford Burnett of Knoxville Jefferson City, Tenn., sent to my wife. As you are to have, in the new edition of your book, a chapter / on the Army mule, it has occurred to me that you might like a picture of this 58-year-old mule, and which, too by the way, served in the Civil War.

                                                                                                Truly yours,
                                                                                                C. W. Lewis.

P.S.
I enclose the article, in "The Journal and Tribune" of Knoxville, Tenn., from which was the basis of the article in "Our Fourfooted Friends", but which is fuller in details than the latter. I take "The Journal and Tribune" (weekly ed.), / and my wife cut out the article and loaned it to Mrs. Smith, the head of the Animal Rescue League and the editor of the League's paper, "Our Fourfooted Friends". You may, if you please, return the clipping to me.
