                        Dear Sir
I enclose herewith a picture of the Stuart Monument at Yellow Tavern marking the spot where he recd his death wound. To the right is the road in a deep cut, between the bushes and the monument. The Yankees in following the first Va Cavalry had gone up this road but meeting Capt Dory Dorsey & his squadron had been driven back. One of those men whose horse had been killed was running back after them on foot. Stuart from the top of this cut saw him & fired with his pistol at him several times, / but missed, the Yankee whirled and fired and (accidentally I might say) struck Stuart, but continued on his way. Maj A. R. Venoba of Stuarts Staff coming up at that time helped him off his horse and getting him in an ambulance brought him to Richmond by a circuitous route, the Yankees being inp interposed between & Stuart died here the next day. The men shown in the picture are all members of the Stuart Monument Association, and old cavalry men except the one who seems to be standing on one leg (but is not) the second from the left as you face the picture, he was a Member of the Stuart Horse Artillery, a good soldier and the donor of this picture. If you can do so after getting a cut of it please return to me but if necessary to use it up in making copy, you can do so.

                                                                                    Yours Truly
                                                                                                P. J. White
