Enfield N.H. September 17th/65
 
Dear Natt
                        Yours of the 8th and 10th I received last Thursday. Was very happy to hear from you and that you were well. We are all quite well hope this will find you the same. I should have answered them when I received them but I was so very busy and it / was so hot that a person had all thay could do to live. we are having a splendid rain and we need it very much for it is so very dry. hope it will rain all night.
 
            Mother come home last Thursday She left my Brother folk well George Smith come home last night he has been to Concord for the past three months his mother lives in our house now Mr Nichols arrived in town the other day he makes it his home at Mr Clarks. he sayes he is home waiting orders Albert Cummings is going to Pennsylvania soon Owen is going with Mary Lizzie / now She treated him rather cool while she was at Manchester he went down to see her, and she come home with him
 
            There are quite a number sick in the place now Everette has been in this evening he has to come out once a week to see the folks. "Oh Natt" I do wish you was here this evening it is so lonesome. The millers made me blot this sheet of paper they keep flying in my face and right under my pen I dont know as my letter will be very interesting for you to read I must close for I have got to write to Addie. I sent you two / papers yesterday.
 
            You wrote that thay wanted you to except the Pro. Marshalship of the city I should not excepet it if I thought I should lose a good name by the means. I should think it would be rather hard for you to.
