My Dear Nellie
Here I am arrived here on Thursday A.M. have had to remain on account of getting our Mules shod &c it seemed rather hard at first but I am very glad we are so late on account of the cholera four Cos which left Union a short time since have lost 40 men by cholera it is so bad that the men will not stay at posts but live as they like they are perfectly demoralized so I hear from a perfectly reliable source. the Troops there / are on the way to relieve us as some of the Cos of our Regt are in Quarantine at [?] and all travail of troops is suspended till cold weather. I want to get home but dont want to get the cholera as I now feel I am all O.K. tough as a bear & twice as ugly am all alone in the Co there is no other officer with me and so do as I am a mind to all have to do is to tell the boys what I want & go ahead they will do anything I ask of them and I do not ask anything except what is perfectly right. I do not have to punish any of them only once in a great while and / when I do they remember it I can assure you they do not want the second dose.

I do not much think that we will leave Union till Oct on account of the Cholera & it will take us a month from there to Ft. Riley & I am afraid I will not get to N.E. to eat my Christmas dinner this year

I do not get any letters or papers now & shall not look for many more till I go to some place say Fort Riley Ks.

                                                Remember me to all
                                                            Yours Truly
                                                                        Natt
