I take this opportunity of writeing a few lines to you to let you know my whereabouts & how I am getting along. my health is very good now and hope these few lines will find you in good health
 
I am sorey to inform you that things has not worked as I expected I have not got to my Regt yet and I have delayed writeing to you this long thinking every day to go to my Regt but have now give up getting there very soon. the reason that we are kept hear they are looking for an attact on this town. but I feel in hopes that I can get off before long I will send you the money as soon as I get to the Regt and if I stay hear very long I will get my pay hear then that will be my first buissness to send it to you if I am shure where you are. write to me and tell me how you get along and how long you are going to stay at the hospital and if you go away write and tell me how I where you are. tell Patrick Ney how I am and where I am tell all of the boys that I send my best respects to them. I have a little Privacy that I would write to you but for fear this letter does not reach you I will omit it this time. I enjoy myself in the Religion of Jesus Christ but I do not enjoy myself other ways hear for I am not contented I want to be at home or with my Regt I never enlisted to serve in a Convalesant Regt and am not going to do it I hope you will not think me dishonest about the money for you shal have it if I live. When it is well with you pray for your unworthy friend that he may ever be found faithful in discharge of his Christian duty. I will ever remember you in my prayers and if we never meet again on earth I shal die knowing that I had met a friend while on the journey of life that i shal shurely meet again when God shal call for those has done his duty hear if you should write to me and get no answer it will be becaus I do not / get the letter if you write till you think that I am not hear then write to Wis and if I am there I will write to you and if I am not there my wife will write and tell you where I am whether I am liveing or have been slain in Battle it would be pleasure for her to hear from one that has been a friend to me. William if I live to get home my two children shal often hear your name and if you should ever meet with them when you are old you will ever be made welcome. I have not much more news to write this time but ever remain your faithful friend untill death
