Samuel Ingham
Samuel Ingham was born on February 3, 1818, in New Jersey. He married Emma Johnston on January 27, 1841, and they had at least eight children: Charles, born around 1844; Anna, born around 1846; Mary, born around 1849; James, born around 1854; Jessie, born around 1856; Jonathan, born around 1859; Delia, born around 1862; and Samuel, born around 1865. They moved to Lagro, Indiana, in the 1840s, and he worked as a farmer. By 1850, he owned $1,800 of real estate. He moved to Polk, Indiana, in the 1850s, and by 1860, he owned $3,500 of real estate and $500 of personal property.

He enlisted in the Union army on October 24, 1861, and he mustered in as a corporal in Company G of the 47th Indiana Infantry. He apparently lied about his age, claiming he was only 38 years old. The regiment took part in the Vicksburg campaign. He was eventually reduced to the ranks, and he mustered out on September 3, 1863.

He returned to Indiana after leaving the army. He applied for a federal pension in February 1864, but he apparently never received one. They moved to Jones, Iowa, in the 1860s, and by 1870, he owned $2,125 of real estate and $712 of personal property. He died on August 1, 1878.
