Mary Shunk (maiden name: Raysor) was born around 1817 in Pennsylvania. She married Zephaniah Shunk, and they had at least two children: Francis, born around 1843; and Hannah, born on August 29, 1845. They lived in Upper Providence, Pennsylvania, and her husband worked as a lock tender. By 1850, they owned $1,500 of real estate. Her husband died in 1858. She eventually remarried, but her husband probably died sometime before 1880. By 1880, she was living in her daughter’s household in Upper Providence. She applied for a Civil War mother’s pension in December 1887 and eventually secured one. She died sometime after 1887.
