Dear _______
I must ask ten thousand pardons for not writing to you before but the truth is I have not been as well as one could wish for the last two or three weeks past but I begin to feel like a Weasel again I think we shall be able to move on to Richmond again soon.  The weather is fine & as for myself I care not how quick they move I have been in camp long enough.  I do not like to fight but then a change will keep one mind busy & I do no think that we shall have to fight mutsh before we get near Richmond as I think the Reb will fall back The Army of the Potomac are enough for them the number of men in this Army no one knows but those in command of the Army but rest assured that it was never in better trim & health than now & I think we can out number them two to one if not more so that they must surely fall back or get badly whipped. Yet time will tell I do not want to fight but I have had my gun fixed & must try it sonce I suppose I have some new globe sights upon it & a man stands no sight at all at one half mile in a still clear day tell Father that I can kill Turkeys at one hundred rods & do good business with it I have made one string at off hand of 4 shots 20 Rods whitch masured 8 1/4 inches I want to have some of our ___ marksman beat that with their best Guns. I must now close Frank was here just now he is well & sends love to all My love to all & I remain
                                                Your affectionate Uncle
