Ozias Sanford to Daniel Sanford, 30 April 1865
Camp at Danville
April 30th 1865
Dear Father
My health is as good as usual I still continue to have some cough. but I think that I am improving I have been with the company on the whole of our hard marches & stood them as well as any of them I think that this war is now closed & I shall expect to be home in September if life is spaire I should like a bottle of wild cherry, but I do not see how I can get it I shall go to town tomorrow & see if I cannot get some there the weather here is fine corps looking fine & as for negroes there is a right smart chance of them here and they are all glad to see the Yanks as they call us.
Give my love to all and I remain your affectionate
Son O. Sanford
