Emily Ayres (maiden name: Dearborn) was born around 1829 in Maine. She married Romeyn Ayres around 1849, and they had at least six children: Charles, born around 1854; Mary, born around 1856; Annie, born around 1858; Emily, born around 1859; Henry, born around 1864; and George, born around 1866. Her husband was an officer in the Regular Army, and she accompanied him to Fort Snelling in Minnesota and Fortress Monroe in Virginia. By 1870, they were living in Portland, Maine, and they owned $8,000 of real estate and $3,000 of personal property. She died of cancer on October 23, 1878.
